Listed Buildings project to be launched

Historic England and Cumbria County History Trust are looking for volunteers to help with a new project, starting in January 2023. The project involves research into the listed buildings in Barrow-in-Furness.

The volunteers will work as part of a team to check the accuracy of information held on the National Heritage List for England and to undertake contextual research into those buildings. The listed buildings to be surveyed lie in four wards of the town: Central Ward, Salthouse Ward, Ramsden Ward and Barrow Island. Some of the volunteer roles will be desk based while other roles will involved site visits.

Training sessions will be provided through a series of in-person workshops, held at Signal Film and Media, Cooke’s Studios, 104 Abbey Road, Barrow-in-Furness, LA14 5QR, starting with an introduction to the project on Thursday 5th January 1-3pm. Further training sessions at Signal Film will be held on Thursday 12th, Thursday 19th and Thursday 23rd February 1-3pm. There will also be a visit to Barrow Archive Centre on Thursday 26th January 1-2.30pm. The project will take place between January and March and is an exciting opportunity for people to learn more about the heritage in our local area and how it can be protected and promoted.
